Mark Speights Father Humbled By Public Support

The father of the late children's television presenter Mark Speight has spoken publicly for the first time since his son's suicide.

The CBBC host was found hanged at a building next to London's Paddington station in April following the death of his fiancee, fellow presenter Natasha Collins.

Speaking to the BBC, Oliver Speight said he had been "filled… with humility" by the extent of support offered to the family since the 42-year-old's tragic death.

He said that letters of condolence sent to the family were so "stunning in their beauty that you feel moved".

"That grief is almost stronger than my own."

Ms Collins was found dead in a bath tub at the couple's flat in January after ingesting cocaine, sleeping pills and vodka.

She was discovered with burns covering 60 per cent of her body and Mr Speight was initially arrested on suspicion of murder but later released.

Speight's father said the SMart host had been "constantly full of this remorse about her".

"You felt that he was wondering could he have done more, the question we'd all ask ourselves," he added.

"The answer is he was asleep. She was found in the bath and the situation is quite clear in my mind - it was a tragic accident."

Mr Speight went missing for six days after failing to meet with Ms Collins' mother in central London.

He was later found dead in a building next to the railway station on April 13th.

Oliver Speight said his son's legacy would be "the compassion, the artistic skill and the joy that he gave to those children".

And now Craig, 40, is being lined up to receive the prestigious Green Beret - if only he can find the time to complete and pass an endurance test.

A source at the Royal Marines training centre in Lympstone near Devon, England, says, "We were the ones who took Daniel to the press conference when he was revealed as the new James Bond.

"He was great - a really god guy - and he was very appreciative of our work. He supports the RNLI (Royal Navy Lifeboat Institution) and is very interested in the Royal Marine Commandos too.

"We're trying to get him down here to do one of the Commando tests so he can get his honorary Green Beret. It's just about trying to find the time. He's so busy."

Actors John Drew Maurice Barrymore and Justin Long joined Oprah Winfrey yesterday to speak about their new romance language.
